چکیده
[1] This study quantifies the effects of Sun reflection over land surfaces on radiometric measurements at L-band. The impact of the reflected Sun on radiometric measurements over a grass field and over an agricultural area reached 25 K and 17 K respectively. A model that predicts the impact of Sun reflection over land is developed and tested for two different radiometer configurations and spatial resolutions. Citation: Escorihuela, M. J., K. Saleh, P. CAROLS: A New Airborne L-Band Radiometer for Ocean Surface and Land Observations
The "Cooperative Airborne Radiometer for Ocean and Land Studies" (CAROLS) L-Band radiometer was designed and built as a copy of the EMIRAD II radiometer constructed by the Technical University of Denmark team. It is a fully polarimetric and direct sampling correlation radiometer. It is installed on board a dedicated French ATR42 research aircraft, in conjunction with other airborne instruments ...

A Land Surface Microwave Emission Model (LSMEM) is used to derive soil moisture estimates over Iowa during the Soil Moisture Experiment 2002 (SMEX02) field campaign, using brightness temperature data from the Advanced Microwave Sounding Radiometer (AMSR)-E satellite. Spatial distributions of the near-surface soil moisture are produced using the LSMEM, with data from the North American Land Data...

Observations of Land C-band backscatter from snow cover are presented at all polarizations. Airborne passive-microwave data was collected in Northern Finland during EMAC’95 (European Multi-sensor Airborne Campaign-95). The measurements cover the 6.8–18.7 GHz frequency range with both vertical and horizontal polarizations. The empirical SAR data were acquired by EMISAR of Technical University of...

The application of an airborne electronically steered thinned array L-band radiometer (ESTAR) for soil moisture mapping was investigated over the semiarid rangeland Walnut Gulch Watershed located In southeastern Arizona. During the experiment, antecedent rainfall and evaporation were very dif ferent and resulted in a wide range of soil moisture conditions. The high spatial variability of rainfa...

In active (SAR) and passive (radiometer) microwave remote sensing polarimetry provides an innovative observation space for analyses of land surface scattering pointing towards a combined (active-passive) soil moisture estimation on agricultural ground. In order to investigate the potential of a polarimetric, active-passive approach for soil moisture estimation, a unique data set was acquired at...
